Early Life

Opatow, Poland

Marion Weinzweig was born on the 3rd January 1941, exactly nine months after her parents gotten married. She was much loved by her new lengthy family. It was during this time that the Germans opened slave labor camps in which Jews were forced to work for the German cause. They were forced to make bullets, uniforms, guns, and anything else that the Germans needed or the type of factories that were built. When a Jew became slow and tired they were immediately killed and replaced by another Jew. Soon, rumors spread that the Germans were deporting Jews to the “East.” East was a term for the extermination centers that the Jews were unaware of. Sylka, Meyer, and Marion’s Grandfather started to make plans to raise Marion as an Aryan girl due to her blonde hair and blue eyes. They believed that raising Marion as a Aryan child rather than a Jew would save Marian in the future. In order to raise her as aryan, they only spoke to Marion in Polish whenever they were in her presence rather than speaking their native tongue; Yiddish.
