Text
Jack Nemerov was born on September 17, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born into a Jewish family of four consisting of his parents, Isadore, and his older sister, Edith. They lived in North Minneapolis which was a highly Jewish populated area at the time.
Beginning in his adolescent years, Jack was a student at Minneapolis North High School. He graduated from high school in 1935 and then attended the University of Minnesota but did not graduate. Aside from school, Jack also spent his time working for his father, who owned a hat and cap business called “Trimble’s Hat Company”. For many years, Jack helped run the business.
On December 8th, 1941, just one day after Pearl Harbor was attacked, Jack volunteered for service. The decision was similarly made by thousands of men in the country, in response to the attack. Jack had received a call asking if he would be interested in an all Minnesota volunteer unit that was being formed and he agreed (Jack Nemerov, WWII Memoir). He was enlisted into the army in January of 1942 at the age of 25.
