Summer Vacation

Gerda and her mother went to Krynica, Poland for a summer vacation.

Krynica, Poland is located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship (southern Poland) and is considered to be one of the biggest spa towns in all of Poland. It has been known as a popular tourist attraction for the people of Poland and other Europeans to visit throughout the year.

In the summer of 1939, Gerda and her mother traveled to a summer resort located in Krynica. (Klein, 4) That summer her father and brother Arthur were unable to travel to Krynica for the summer vacation. While in Krynica Gerda’s mother had received, a telegram stating that the two of them should return home immediately. (Klein, 4) In early August of 1939, the two, returned home to Bielsko where Gerda found out that her father had suffered a mild heart attack while they were away in Krynica. (Klein, 4)
