Continuing Production

Paris, France

Jack was moved from Salisbury to Paris in late September, soon after its liberation. He was transferred from First Army to Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces, also known as SHAEF (Jack Nemerov, WWII Memoir). They began to take over production of the automotive part factories in the liberated parts of Europe and used them to rebuild equipment. His assignment was to reestablish the theater plants into manufacturing American spare parts (Jack Nemerov, WWII Memoir). The most difficult part of this process to Jack was doing business with the French, as they used the metric system and were extremely uncooperative. In time, Jack reactivated approximately 350 of the plants to manufacture American parts, an admirable accomplishment in which he received a special decoration (Jack Nemerov, WWII Memoir).

Jack was then given another assignment which was to establish priorities into warehouses that contained raw materials as the war was moving closer to Germany (Jack Nemerov, WWII Memoir). He received excellent information on all the warehouses from British Intelligence. With this information, Jack would quickly travel to each location he needed. The risk he had to take for this specific assignment was never knowing if he was behind the active lines or in front of them as he rushed from one warehouse to another (Jack Nemerov, We Remember History Oral Interview).
